I’ve never had anything but bog standard consumer grade printers (read “cheap”), and while I’ve liked the results I’ve gotten printing photos with some of them, they are what they are – inexpensive all-purpose printers. Recently I bought a new Canon Pixma Pro 9000 Mark II printer which, while still probably existing in the consumer (or maybe pro-sumer) realm, really is a professional grade photo printer. It’s also the first printer I’ve ever had capable of printer bigger than 8.5×11″ prints. Last night I printed my first large print on pro quality paper, and of course I chose to print the picture that currently serves as the header image for the site, my “Denizen of Winter” shot. To say that I’m pleased with the results would be akin to saying that Jessica Alba is okay-looking. Detail and clarity are amazing and the color is KILLER! It’s not cheap doing the big prints, and I certainly won’t do many, but when I decide I have a shot worthy of going large, it’s nice to know I can make the print myself and end up with results like this…
