In addition, Leica has added a new Monitor / Viewfinder function under the setup menu, which allows fine-tuning of brightness, color, and red/blue tint for either the LCD monitor or the optional external electronic viewfinder accessory. There's a new Miniature Effect function in the D-LUX 5's My Colour mode, which adds either a horizontal or vertical graduated blur effect to images. The D-LUX 5 now also offers Active Mode image stabilization during video capture, which takes advantage of the lower resolution of even high-def video when compared to stills, and thus allows a greater corrective effect. The position around which the image is blurred can be adjusted, and the area of the unblurred area can be adjusted in three steps, much as seen in recent Panasonic cameras with this mode. Seven power in most situations is sufficient power to see plenty of detail, particularly in woodland environments. All in all, a 7x42 binocular is perfectly proportioned for birding under most circumstances. In general, the 7x42 sized binocular is not fully appreciated. The wide field of view makes it easier to find birds and stay on them in flight. Initially, I was concerned about the weight as it is a bit heavier than the Swarovski 8x32 binoculars I favored. That translates into a bright, beautiful view, especially at dusk and dawn when birding in the filtered sunlight of the tree canopy. I really appreciate the craftsmanship and attention to detail....

Die Bedienelemente der FZ48 sind fast identisch mit denen einer digitalen SLR und sie liegt ähnlich gut in der Hand - allerdings sollten es keine allzu großen Hände sein. Schon mit dem Betätigen einer einzigen Taste wird die entsprechende Information angezeigt und kann verändert werden – nichts ist mit ewigem Herumtasten. Das gilt auch für die Bildeffekte, mit denen man ein Foto gleich in der Kamera verfremden kann. Die Anzeige im Sucher ist identisch mit der Displayanzeige – auch alle Einstellungen werden hier eingeblendet. Neu sind 3D-Bilder, bei denen die Kamera aus zwanzig schnell hintereinander geschossenen Aufnahmen ein dreidimensionales Bild errechnet – ein Zugeständnis an den aktuellen Mainstream.
